The Lake Oswego Swim Club is a USA Swimming, year round competitive swim team.  We provide quality instruction for swimmers, from novice to nationally ranked, in a positive and challenging environment.

LOSC is one of the premiere swim teams in the Pacific Northwest.  We hold 7 National Age Group records, over 65 Oregon Swimming records, numerous Top 20 National rankings, and are home to two 2008 Olympic Trials qualifiers and a 2006-2007 American Swim Coaches Association Coach of the Year.  These achievements are the result of the fun, enthusiasm and hard work of the swimmers, coaches and parents.

Coach Coley Stickels on the Morning Swim Show
Our own coach Coley Stickels was featured on Swimming World Magazine's "The Morning Swim Show" today.  Stickels talks about seemingly unorthodox way of training his age-group swimmers and how other coaches perceive his training philosophy.  To view the video, click "read more".
     Coach Coley has also been selected by ACSA (American Swimming Coaches Association) to be a guest speaker at the ASCA World Clinic in Indianapolis, Sept 1-4.  Coley will give presentations on technical analysis of breaststroke, how LOSC trains butterfly and video critique , and producing elite age group swimmers into productive senior-level swimmers.

More news from Junior Nationals
Days two and three saw more awesome performances from LOSC swimmers.
* Karen Turner placed 11th in the 100 Back with a time of 54.16, again breaking both the OSI Open ( 54.54) and the 15-16 (55.81) records in the process.  In the 100 fly, she placed 2nd with a 54.30.  On the final day, Karen's 1:59.36 200 Back earned her 12th place and another spot in the OSI record book, breaking the previous 15-16 record (1:59.37).  karen finished the meet 6th overall out of 133 competitors!
* Grace Carlson's 55.36 100 Back put her in 17th place, just missing Karen's 13-14 OSI record of 55.20.  On the final day, Grace swam a PR of 56.86 in the 100 Fly.
* On the men's side, LOSC finished 18th in the 400 free relay, helping LOSC finish 15th in the combined team standings.

LOSC at Junior Nationals
LOSCs Junior National team is doing great in Columbus! On the first day of competition:
* Karen Turner placed 2nd in the 200IM with a 1:59.54, bettering the OSI Girl's 15-16 record (2:01.45) as well as the OSI Open record (2:01.24) in the process. Karen also placed 8th in the 50Free.
* Grace Carlson placed 11th in the 50Free, matching her own PR of 23.26.
* The boys 200 Free Relay team of Andrew Heymann, Tim Engvall, Daniel Chen and Gunnar Wolfe placed 7th in finals.
* In the men’s 50Free, Gunnar and Tim both swam personal bests, as did Andrew Heymann in the 200IM.

This week the six swimmers of LOSCs Junior Nationals team will head to Columbus, Ohio to compete in the 2009 Speedo Short Course Junior National Championships, December 10-12. LOSC Swimmers Named to Scholastic All-America Team
Four LOSC alumni - MacKenzie Luick * , Brendan Liu *, Sean Malinoski, and Amy Wiley - were named to the 2008-2009 Scholastic All-America Team.  (* 3-time recipient).  The Scholastic All-America program is open to all 10th -12th grade USA Swimming members who earn a 3.5 GPA or better and achieve a Junior National Bonus Time Standard or swim in a selected disability championship meet or the Open Water National Championships.  Congratulations to these awesome student athletes! read more ...

USA Swimming Presentation Tonight
USA Swimming Sports Performance Consultant, Mariejo "MJ" Pasion, will be visiting LOSC today and tomorrow.  We're excited that LOSC, named as a "Nationally Recognized Club" was selected to receive this visit.  MJ will be spending time on deck with our swimmers and coaches, and will give a presentation open to all LOSC swimmers and parents tonight, 7:30-9:00pm at Lewis & Clark College. read more ...

USA Swimming Adopts October 1 Ban on Full-Body Suits
At its annual Convention on 9/19, over 400 USA Swimming Delegates, representing swim clubs from all 50 states, voted overwhelmingly for early implementation of a ban on high-tech swimsuits. The legislation, which will go into effect on October 1, regulates swimsuits worn in all USA Swimming–sanctioned competitions. read more ...

LOSC Swimmers at Western Zone Championships
 Four LOSC athletes who qualified for and were selected for Oregon Swimming's Zone team, headed to Oahu, HI to compete in the USA Swimming Western Zone Championships August 4-9.  Brie Balsbough, Sarah Kaunitz, Celia Keany and Abby Lyons were among the 60 Oregon athletes competing in Hawaii. 

Meet highlights for our LOSC swimmers include:
* Oregon’s Girls 13-14 200m Medley Relay team, with Brianna Balsbough and Celia Keany, finishes 1st and sets a new Western Zone record.
* Oregon’s Girls 13-14 200m Freestyle Relay team with Brianna Balsbough and Celia Keany finishes 1st and sets another new Western Zone record.

LOSC swimmers who were Top 8 Finalists:
Brie Balsbough: 2nd Girls 13-14 50m Freestyle.
Sarah Kaunitz: 3rd Girls 11-12 50m Butterfly; 5th 50m Freestyle.
Celia Keany: 1st Girls 13-14 50m Freestyle; 3rd 100mFreestyle; 5th 200mFreestyle; 8th 200m IM.

LOSC at 11&Over LC Championships
45 LOSC swimmers qualified for and competd at the OSI 11&Over Long Course Championships at Mt Hood Community College, July 30-August 2.  Representing LOSC were: Brie Balsbough, Ann Barrington, Jordynn Canelis, Madison Canelis, Grace Carlson, Brenda Cha, Jamie Chang, Amy Chen, Sarah Cooper, Julia Dahl, Alissa Frazier, Madeline Hummel, Sarah Kaunitz, Celia Keany, Mackenzie Luick, Madison Luick, Abby Lyons, Yifan Mao, Cassidy Robinson, Karen Turner, Ciara Wolfe, Catherine Yee, Sherry Zhang, Nick Bode, Matthew Cavaness, Brian Cha, Daniel Chen, Tim Engvall, Brian Frazier, Nathan Frazier, Jeff Gately, Nick Gipe, Wyatt Hayden, Andrew Heymann, Cooper Langdahl, Brendan Liu, Alex Lyons, Sean Malinoski, Kevin O'Leary, Jake Rullman, Benjamin Tovar-Prince, Quentin Tovar-Prince, Kyle Vu, Austin Weng, and Gunnar Wolfe.  

The LOSC boys 15-16 200 Free Relay team of Daniel Chen, Andrew Heymann, Nicholas Bode and Gunnar Wolfe broke the USA Swimming National Age Group record of 1:37.36 set in 1999, with their 1:37.12.  This is the 7th NAG record set by LOSC relays!

Three more Oregon Swimming records were broken by LOSC’s 17-18 boys. The 17-18 boys relay team of Sean Malinoski, Timothy Engvall, Brian Cha and Nicholas Gipe beat THSCs 1992 record in the 200 Free Relay, swimming 1:37.97 to THSC's 1:39.05. Sean, Timothy and Brian were joined by Brendan Liu in the 400 Free Relay to beat the CATs 2006 record, stopping the clock at 3:37.83 to overturn the old record of 3:38.97. LOSC upset one more record when Sean, Brian, and Timothy were joined by Cooper Langdahl in the 200 Medley Relay, swimming 1:49.78 to beat the 1992 record held by THSC.

Alissa Frazier (11 yr old girls) – 3rd in 50 Free, 1st in 50 Breaststroke, 2nd 100 Breaststroke
Brian Frazier (11 yr old boys) – 1st in 100 Butterfly, 2nd 100 Free, 1st 50 Butterfly
Andrew Heymann (15&Over Boys) – 1st in 200 IM, 2nd in 200 Breaststroke
Sarah Kaunitz (12 yr old girls) – 2nd in 50 Free, 3rd 100 Butterfly, 3rd 200 Free, 3rd 100 Free, 1st 50 Butterfly
Celia Keany (13 yr old girls) – 2nd in 200 IM, 2nd 50 Free, 2nd 400 Free, 2nd 200 Free, 2nd 100 Free, 3rd 100 Breaststroke
Brendan Liu (15&Over boys) – 1st in 200 Backstroke
Sean Malinoski (15&Over boys) – 2nd in 50 Free, 3rd 100 Free
Cassidy Robinson (14 yr old girls) – 2nd in 50 Free, 3rd 200 Free, 2nd 100 Free, 3rd 100 Breaststroke
Catherine Yee (15&Over girls) – 2nd in 100 Breaststroke

LOSC finished the meet third overall. High point award earners at the meet from LOSC included: Alissa Frazier – 4th for 11 year old girls; Brian Frazier – 4th for 11 year old boys; Sarah Kaunitz – 1st for 12 year old girls; Celia Keany – 3rd for 13 year old girls; Cassidy Robinson – 5th for 14 year old girls; Andrew Heymann and Brendan Liu – tied for 8th for 15&Over boys.   Nice job LOSC!!!

LOSC at Western Region Section Championships
Twenty-one LOSC swimmers qualified for and competed at the Speedo Champions Series Western Region Section Championships, July 21-25 at the Mt. Hood Community College.  Representing LOSC were: Brie Balsbough, Nick Bode, Grace Carlson, Brenda Cha, Brian Cha, Daniel Chen, Julia Dahl, Tim Engvall, Nick Gipe, Andrew Heymann, Celia Keany, Cooper Langdahl, Brendan Liu, Mackenzie Luick, Abby Lyons, Sean Malinoski, Cassidy Robinson, Karen Turner, Gunnar Wolfe, Catherine Yee, and Sherry Zhang.   

Highlights of the meet included:
* two new Junior Nationals cuts by Tim Engvall in the 50 Free, and the 400 Free Relay Team (Nick Bode, Sean Malinoski, Tim Engvall and Andrew Heymann).
* two new Oregon Swimming records:  LOSCs 13-14 girls relay team of Grace Carlson, Cassidy Robinson, Brenda Cha and Celia Keany lowered the OSI 200 Free Relay record of 1:50.41 (set by LOSC in 2008) with a 1:48.38, which is only .52 off the National Age Group Record, and ranks them #1 in the US.  The same team also bettered the 400 Free Relay, swimming 4:00.76, beating LOSC's 2008 record of 4:05.11.  Way to go LOSC!

Congratulations to the LOSC 10&U Championship Team!
Twelve swimmers represented LOSC at the OSI 10&U Championships: Claire Cranch, Alyssa Gustaff, Madeline Eller, Maddie Rullman, Sahana Saravanan, Lisa Kaunitz, Olivia Rullman, Zoe Stephan, Evan Carlson, Doug Heymann, Jordan Leis and Nate Trank.  

Some noteable swims were:
* Claire Cranch, Madeline Eller, Alyssa Gustaff, Sahana Saravanan - 3rd in the 8&U Girls 200M Freestyle and 2nd in the 200M  Medley relays. 
* Evan Carlson, Doug Heymann, Jordan Leis, Nate Trank - 4th in the 10&U Boys 200M Freestyle and 5th in the 200M Medley relays. 
* Claire Cranch - 2nd in the 50M breaststroke (new team record) ; 3rd in the 50M backstroke. 
* Madeline Eller - 3rd in the 50M breaststroke. 
* Alyssa Gustaff - 3rd 100M freestyle + top 10 in all her events. 
* Lisa Kaunitz - 1st in the 50M & 100M Breaststroke + top 5 in all her events.  
* Doug Heymann -  3rd in the 50M freestyle + top 10 in all his events. 
* Nate Trank - 4th in the100M Butterfly + top 10 in all his events.
