 Coaching Staff

We have a highly trained, caring coaching staff with a combined 47+ years of experience.  Their experience ranges from teaching swimming lessons, to collegiate coaching, all with impressive swimming careers of their own, including Olympic Trials Finals.

If you have questions related to workouts, meets, goal setting or other swimming related needs, please contact one of the coaches.  For all adminstrative related questions (dues, policy issues, etc.), please contact one of the Board members.

  

Coley Stickels
Head Coach

Coley was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska and attended N.E. Creighton Preparatory High School, class of '96. At the University of Arizona, Coley graduated cum laude in English/Media Relations in 2001 and moved on to Dartmouth College, where he studied Liberal Arts and Science.

Coley's personal swimming awards include: 14 time NCAA All-American, USA National Team Member 1999-2001, World Championship Finalist (Hong Kong 1999), NCAA Silver Medalist, 1st Team Academic All-American and Olympic Trials Finalist (semi's 50 free).

While at Hillenbrand, Coley coached 4 swimmers who have since gone on to be a NCAA All-Americans and Olympic Qualifiers, as well as one 2004 Olympian. At Dartmouth, the men's sprinters broke 3 school records that had stood since 1983.

Coley coaches the elite age group swimmers as well as the Senior program. Since joining LOSC in 2003, Coley has coached LOSC to 65 state records, over 100 Top 16 times, its first National Age Group records (6) in 2008, and two 2008 Olympic Trials Qualifiers. Coley was recognized by the American Association of Swim Coaches (ASCA) as one of the Age Group Coaches of the Year for 2006-2007.  In 2008, Coley received his ASCA Level 5 certification. 


  

Eliza Werth-Davis

 Eliza grew up in the Portland area and has had a long, impressive swimming career including swimming for Tualatin Hills Swim Club, Jesuit High School, and earning a full-ride scholarship to swim for UCLA and the University of Hawaii. Her personal swimming career highlights include Junior and Senior Nationals qualifier, Junior Nationals champion in the 200IM and a top 6 finisher in the 400IM, 200Fly, and 100Free, and Olympic Trials qualifier (1995). Eliza was head coach of a small team in Barber’s Point, Hawaii, and is now back home in Oregon with her husband and 3 year old son, excited to continue her coaching career. 
 


  

Alejandro Contreras

Alejandro spent his first years in Bogota, Colombia and moved to Oregon with his family at the age of 7. It was there that he began his swimming career with the Canby Gators at age 8. He attended Blanchet Catholic High School and transferred to the Corvallis Aquatic Team. He started his high school team and eventually won a state title in the 200IM as the team captain his senior year. With the Corvallis Aquatic Team he qualified for senior sectionals in 2004 through 2006. Alejandro graduated in the class of ‘06 and attended Oregon State University for two years where he swam and was mentored to coach under Larry Lebowitz. He recently transfered to Portland State University and is studying pre-med. He last coached the Chinook Swim Team in Salem Oregon. He plans to attend medical school after his undergraduate studies.  
 


  

Jenelle Young

Jenelle was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. She started swimming at the young age of 3 with the Red Cross, then joined the Lake Oswego Swim Club when she was 6 and continued to swim competitively for 12 years. Jenelle was a long distance swimmer, with her favorite events being the 200 Breaststroke, 200IM, and 100 Fly. Her passion for the water went beyond club swimming and included high school swimming and high school water polo. Jenelle was named captain her junior and senior year. Currently,  Jenelle is preparing to get her bachelors degree in Education while continuing her coaching career with LOSC.  
 


  

Jack Urstadt

Jack grew up in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York to a swimming family. His first love, however, was snow skiing and water skiing. By the time he was 18, he was a professional instructor. After moving to Lake Oswego from Vail, Colorado, Jack first became involved with LOSC as a swim parent with his two children. He served for a short time as Vice President on the LOSC Board. Jack started giving swim lessons in 2003 at the Lake Oswego pool and at the Oregon Golf Club. He became a novice coach with a local club and was the Assistant Coach for the Lake Oswego High School swim team in 2004. Jack is an ASCA Level 2 coach and was certified to coach Special Olympics in 2006, and is also certified scuba.
